Clear aligner orthodontics can be a wonderful option for adolescent and adult patients alike who don't prefer the look and hassle that can come with traditional metal braces. Made of a smooth plastic material that fits comfortably over your teeth, these custom-made trays are nearly invisible as you wear them. In fact, they're so discreet that your friends and family might not even realize you have them! Maintaining a good and consistent at-home dental hygiene routine with clear aligner orthodontics has also been shown to be easier when compared to conventional braces as you don't have to meticulously clean around the brackets and wires. Clear aligners also have no dietary restrictions, and they're even safe to wear during sports.
Ideal candidates for clear aligners may experience any of the following issues:
- Crossbite or openbite
- Underbite or overbite
- Turned or rotated teeth
- Crowded teeth
- Crooked teeth
- Gapped teeth
What to Expect
Before creating your personalized treatment plan, Dr. Ashcraft will evaluate your teeth, jaw, and oral health. To determine if clear teeth aligners are right for you, he will understand your concerns and goals, as well as lifestyle habits. One of our skilled orthodontic assistants will administer digital impressions and x-rays to be sent to our partner lab where your customized clear teeth aligners will be crafted. Each set of trays should only be worn for about two weeks before they will need to be switched out for another pair. Over the duration of your treatment, your teeth will shift into their ideal position, producing a healthier, straighter smile. In order to achieve your best results, you should be committed to keeping up with your dental and orthodontic care, which includes brushing, flossing, and wearing your trays for 20 – 22 hours daily.
Once your personalized treatment with clear teeth aligners has started, it will be important to attend your scheduled check-in appointments every 4 – 6 weeks so Dr. Ashcraft can keep track of your progress and make adjustments to your treatment plan or appliances as needed. After the active phase of your orthodontic treatment is complete, new digital impressions and x-rays will be taken. These scans will be used to create retainers for your upper and lower arches (or for whichever teeth received the orthodontic treatment). When your clear teeth aligner treatment has concluded, it will be important to wear your retainer as directed by Dr. Ashcraft. This appliance will help to keep your teeth in place as your jawbone adjusts to the new alignment.
Depending on your dental insurance, some of the costs for your clear teeth aligners may or may not be covered by your plan. One of our team members will contact your provider to ascertain your coverage and benefits. For any out-of-pocket costs, or for those who don't carry insurance, Ashcraft Orthodontics Jacksonville accepts many payments, including medical financing through CareCredit and our own in-house payment plan system.
